The list of activities and events during all this years is very long. An excerpt of the main ones during the first years (1994 - 1998) is given here:

Year 1993

Event: ABC’93 - 1st Summer School on Advanced Broadband Communications.
Description: 1st Summer School on Advanced Broadband Communication was transmitted to TID in Madrid using H323 Videoconference. A very first prototype of ISABEL was demonstrated.

Year 1994

Event: ABC’94 - 2nd Summer School on Advanced Broadband Communications.
Description: a Summer School event consists of the delivery and support of a one-week distributed course on broadband technologies using the ISABEL teleconference platform over the pan-european ATM network. These are events involving real usage of multicast ATM technology to support real users across the world (paying participants at the conferences).

Event: BIAS Conference in Milan
Description: ISABEL was used to allow Canada to participate at the BIAS Conference where a presentation on Concurrent Engineering Projects in an International Context was made by Elsag Bailey and demonstrations on engineering processes were made by NRC.

Event: InterComm '97 Exhibition in Vancouver
Description: CSCW Demonstration using a hybrid terrestrial/satellite ATM network. An E1 ATM satcom link was used between Vancouver and Ottawa. Another E1 ATM satcom link was used between Ottawa to Lake Cowichan in B.C. to link up to Teleglobe's TPC-4 facility (undersea submarine cable) to connect to CRL in Japan.

Event: Virtual Classroom
Description: Students from the Glashan School in Ottawa and the International School of Basel used Isabel and broadband ATM networks to virtually meet on several occasions for the purpose of designing a shopping mall and sharing their views, concepts, etc.

Event: EXPERT Testbed and CRC BADLAB Collaboration
Description: The collection of ATM broadband facilities offered by the EXPERT Testbed (applications, terminal equipment, switches, signalling capabilities and network interworking units) was unique in Europe at the time. It was used to provide the platform for a number of trials that were performed by other EC projects in the fields of mobile, multimedia, charging and signalling for ATM, telecommunication, satellite, CATV network integration, tele-learning and TMN aspects. The ISABEL application was used to conduct several demonstrations, presentations, and reviews. Tests were made to measure QoS in parallel to ISABEL sessions to/from several different locations.
